Regarding the noble battle of the mighty [EXPENSIVE COMPETITOR] and the valiant Oticon: As you can infer, we have now had opportunity to gauge my Mom's overall impressions.... All considered, the Oticon was the surprising winner. It took us a while though, as one constantly finds oneself intuitively factoring in the substantial cost difference (R8,000 vs R20,000+). Perversely, this had the overall effect of favouring the [COMPETITOR] prompting us to look for shortcomings in the Oticon! Once this consumer kneejerk had worn out a little, objectivity began to carry the day. The notable saving is nice - and almost too good to accept!

Both my Mom and I are very pleased to have found you... This hearing aid has hugely restored once-lost breadth of life to her. It is amazing to watch her blossom - also singing(!) once more after nearly four decades of silence. In her teens and twenties she was a gifted soprano, you know, and loved performing... Now, the only songs that spring from her are her own songs of love, which she sings to the Lord with heartfelt gusto!

"You have changed my life! I am so overwhelmed and feel a bit shaky. The change is dramatic, but amazing though. Far sounds I can hear, they sound amplified and like a loud speaker! LOL! :) For the first time I heard the wind, and the rustle of the leaves in the trees :) A zip open!!! The ringing (Tinnitus) in my Right ear is completely gone, the left sort of comes and goes. "Die gehoorstoestelle het vir my hemel op aarde gebring." Ek was altyd negatief as daar voorgestel word dat ek my gehoor moet laat toets, want ek het geglo dat daar niks met my gehoor verkeerd is nie. Alhoewel ek die laaste 3 tot 4 jaar met die geluid van sonbesies in my kop rondgeloop het.

My vrou het ‘n advertensie in die koerant gelees dat Digitone, gratis gehoor toetse doen en vir my 'n afspraak gemaak. Ek was genaam verras met die ontvangs wat ek van die ontvangsdame gekry het en het sommer dadelik gerus en tuis gevoel. Henry Mann het my in sy spreekkamer ontmoet en sy vriendelike, gerustellende optrede het my ook gemaklik laat voel. Na ‘n lang gesprek het hy die prosedure verduidelik en begin om die gehoor toets te doen.

Toe dit klaar was het hy my verduidelik wat die grafieke beteken en toe vir my twee Oticon gehoorstukke geprogrameer en op my ore gesit. Wat my eerste opgeval het was die aantreklike ontwerp en onopsigtelikheid op die oor. Dit was so lig soos ‘n veer en baie gemaklik.

Die grootste verassing en waarvoor ek nie voorbereid was nie, was toe hy die toestelle aanskakel. 'n Nuwe "lewe" het vir my oopgegaan. EK KON WEER HOOR!! En die sonbesies was weg. Hy het alles met my mediese fonds gereel en ek is toe daar weg met die gehoorstukke met die gedagte dat dit binne ‘n dag of twee weer maar die ou storie sou wees van Eksuus, Herhaal asb, Sit harder die TV ens. ( ek is maar ‘n pesimistiese person van geaardheid )

Nou amper 'n maand later verwyt ek myself dat ek nie vroeer gegaan het nie. Hoe lekker is dit nie nie nou om in die veld te loop en weereens die voels se gesang te geniet nie. Die wind deur die bome se blare te hoor waai nie. Ek glo ek is ook ‘n beter bestuurder omdat ek nou baie meer bewus is van wat om my omgaan terwyl ek bestuur. Die verkeersgeluide is so duidelik en kan nou vinniger reageer op sirens ens. Die gehoorstoestelle het vir my hemel op aarde gebring. Ek kan gesprekke volg, musiek luister, die huishoudelike toestelle hoor wat werk, vergeet nie meer om die wasbak se kraan oop te laat en verspoel die kombuis nie. Bo alles die gesindheid in my gesin het so baie verander net omdat ek weer ordentlik kan hoor en verstaan wat hulle se. Ek dra my toestelle van vroeg af elke dag tot laataand wat ek klaar TV gekyk het en die batterye hou tussen 10 en 12 dae!! Daar is geen wind gesuis as die wind waai nie. Agtergrond geluide is duidelik en glad nie steurend nie. Ek kan my Telkomfoon sowel as my selfoon gebruik sonder enige ongemak. Ek sal net moet versigtig wees, ek is so gewoond aan dit en is so gemaklik op die oor, dat ek nie met dit aan in die stort klim nie.

I write to comment on the new Oticon hearing aids which you recently fitted for me. I have been hard of hearing since childhood and have been using hearing aids for many years having experienced a great variety of systems over time. These latest Oticon digital aids are an order of magnitude better than anything I have experienced. For the first time ever I actually feel that I am hearing much as a normal person ought to. I hear sounds - like bird calls or the tone of the car engine, that for me simply didnt exist before, and I can hold a conversation without the problems or misunderstandings that hearing loss leads to.

I am grateful to you for the chance to experience these aids, and for the patience you have shown in getting the settings right. I feel that we have now got the settings correct - interestingly one doesnt need to have them particularly loud at all - I am most comfortable with the 'low' setting.

"Hallo daar,

Dit is nou 2 maande sedert ek my gehoorstukkie van julle gekry het.

Ek kan nie genoeg DANKIE sê vir die verandering wat dit in my lewe gebring het nie. Dankie vir julle werk wat julle verrig. Sedert ek my gehoorstukkie gekry het is my lewe weer “normal” en kan ek weer deelneem aan gesprekke sonder stres. Die verleentheid waardeur ek moes gaan om soms twee drie keer vir iemand te vra om iets te herhaal is nou ook iets van die verlede! Wonderlik! Ek het so lief geraak vir hierdie “stukkie oortjie” van my wat my lewe weer vir my terug gegee het.

Baie baie dankie uit die diepte van my hart!
